TEARS Animal Rescue, a Cape Town-based non-profit organisation (NPO), is calling for urgent pet food donations to support its Feed Hungry Pets Programme—a vital initiative that helps families in low-income communities feed their beloved dogs.
When families face financial hardship, feeding their pets can become impossible. While cats may scavenge, this often puts them in danger, and it’s usually the dogs that go hungry first. Many families who deeply love their animals are forced to make the heartbreaking decision to surrender their pets simply because they cannot afford to feed them.
At TEARS, we believe no pet should go hungry, and no family should have to give up a beloved companion due to pet food insecurity. That’s why our Feed Hungry Pets Programme provides essential food support, helping pets stay healthy, happy, and—most importantly—at home with the people who love them.
“Supplemental feeding supports families who are really struggling and helps keep loved pets in loving homes,” says TEARS Operations Manager, Mandy Store. “We’re appealing to the public to help us assist these families and their pets. We all love our pets, so we can imagine how devastating it must be to give them up or watch them go hungry.”
